The way in which you earn award miles, however, remains the same.

Simple earning system

Simple earning system:
Points replace Status and HON Circle miles

HON Circle Points

With the new Status Programme, you’ll earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points instead of Status and HON Circle miles on your flights.

Only two criteria will be used to determine the : the travel class and whether it is a continental or intercontinental flight.

A continental flight is a flight segment whose origin and destination are within the same continent. The following map is decisive for the continents: Flights within the same zone are considered continental. A flight that touches several zones is considered intercontinental.

Frequently asked questions

  • The new Status Programme focuses even more on the needs of our members. It’s easy to understand and transparent, while offering all the little extras needed to make your trip more comfortable. This means you’ll be able to see at a glance what is required to achieve or renew your Status. The focus is on what’s important to you, so you can enjoy every trip.

  • The changes apply to all flights operated from 01.01.2024, irrespective of when you booked them.

Example: You booked in October 2023, and the flight is in July 2024. In this case, you’ll earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points.

  • A continental flight is a flight segment for which the departure and arrival airports are on the same continent. For example, if you fly with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Barcelona, both the departure and arrival airports are within Europe, and the flight therefore counts as a continental flight. Domestic flights, such as flights within Germany, Austria or Switzerland also count as continental flights. Please note that Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia are classified as part of the eurozone, which means that flights from Germany to Tunisia, for example, are counted as continental flights.

An intercontinental flight is a flight segment for which the departure and arrival airports are on different continents. For example, if you fly with SWISS from Zurich to New York, the departure and arrival airports are on different continents (Europe and North America). The flight segment therefore counts as an intercontinental flight.

  • Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS offer various travel classes: Business Class, Economy Class, and where available, also First Class and Premium Economy Class. You can find your travel class on your passenger receipt or your boarding pass. Some of our airline partners may have different travel classes.

  • The same number of Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points will be credited for each flight segment, regardless of Status.

Frequent Travellers, Senators and HON Circle Members will continue to earn at least 25% more award miles with certain airlines.

  • Yes, you can earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points on journeys with Austrian AIRail, Lufthansa Express Rail or the SWISS Airtrain service in the same way as you would on flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa or SWISS.

A maximum number of Qualifying Points or HON Circle Points is defined for achieving each Status on these journeys.

The maximum thresholds are: 160 Qualifying Points for Frequent Traveller Status, 500 Qualifying Points for Senator Status and 1,000 HON Circle Points for HON Circle Member Status.

  • Unfortunately, you will not be able to earn Points, Qualifying Points or HON Circle Points on journeys with the Lufthansa Express Bus.

  • Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points can be earned on LX code-share flights operated by Edelweiss (flight numbers LX8000–8499), provided these flights are booked directly with SWISS under the LX flight number.

  • A retroactive credit will always be applied to the calendar year in which the flight took place. For retroactive credits applied in 2024 for flights taken in the 2023 calendar year, the credit will be in Status miles or HON Circle miles. These flights will count retroactively towards achieving or renewing Status in 2023.

  • If you don’t earn enough Points, Qualifying Points or HON Circle Points within one calendar year, you’ll receive the Status below the one you previously held. For example, if you are unable to renew your Senator Status, you’ll receive Frequent Traveller Status for one year.

All Status customers who don’t qualify for their Status in March 2024 and revert to the Status below their previous one will enjoy a two-year term with their new Status, until the end of February 2026.

All members who don’t qualify for their Status in March 2025 or subsequent years will revert to the Status below their previous one for one year.

  • Special rules will apply for qualification as a HON Circle Member or renewal of HON Circle Status in the transitional period between the current and the new system.

Qualification and renewal years 2023 and 2024 (existing HON Circle Members with a term that runs until the end of February 2025):
In 2023, you still earned HON Circle miles. From 1.1.2024, you’ll be credited with HON Circle Points for Business and First Class flights.

    There are now two options:

    Option 1:
you earn at least 6,000 HON Circle Points in the 2024 calendar year, and qualify for HON Circle Status until the end of February 2026.

    Option 2:
we will, of course, recognise the HON Circle miles you have flown in 2023 and convert these into HON Circle Points. This amount will be added to the number of HON Circle Points you earn in 2024. If you reach a total of 12,000 HON Circle Points, you’ll achieve HON Circle Status for two years, until the end of February 2027.

Conversion rate: 100 HON Circle miles are equivalent to two HON Circle Points. Therefore, 300,000 HON Circle miles are equivalent to 6,000 HON Circle Points.

  • In this case, the transitional arrangement will, of course, apply, and you will get a two-year term. You won’t need to take any further action. Before your current card expires, we will send you a new card with an expiry date at the end of February 2027.

  • The conversion rate has been determined as follows:
You currently need to earn 600,000 HON Circle miles within two calendar years to achieve HON Circle Member Status, i.e. 300,000 HON Circle miles per calendar year.
300,000 HON Circle miles divided by the new qualification threshold of 6,000 HON Circle Points gives a conversion rate of 50, which means 100 HON Circle miles are equivalent to 2 HON Circle Points.

  • No, the Qualifying Points that are converted at the beginning of 2024 from Status Stars Points achieved by 31.12.2023 will have no impact on Status qualification or renewal. They will only be taken into account in the cumulative Qualifying Points required to achieve Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime Status.

  • You’ll receive two eVouchers when you qualify for or renew your Senator Status.

From 01.01.2024, you’ll receive four eVouchers when you qualify for or renew your HON Circle Member Status.

Please note that the relevant number of eVouchers will only be credited to your account after your new Senator or HON Circle Member card has been issued. They cannot be awarded prior to this, even if you have already met all the conditions for retaining your Status, for example.

  • The Qualifying Points earned towards achieving Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime Status can be found under your Status on the Miles & More app or at miles-and-more.com from mid January.

  • You’ll get all the benefits of Frequent Traveller or Senator Status.

  • Yes, there’s no time limit on Frequent Traveller Lifetime and Senator Lifetime Status. The expiry date on your card relates solely to the card itself and not to your Lifetime Status. All cards have a fixed term and are regularly exchanged. You’ll be sent a new card well before your current card expires.

  • You can always go up a Status, for example from Senator Lifetime to HON Circle Member or from Frequent Traveller Lifetime to Senator.

  • No, qualification as a Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime occurs when the required number of Qualifying Points is achieved, regardless of the current Status.

  • No, Senator Lifetime will continue to be valid for an entire lifetime under the new Status Programme. However, there will be a technical switchover. You will therefore receive a new card from us by the end of February 2024. Your current card will remain valid until then. You can also look forward to receiving four eVouchers when the technical switchover takes place.

  • Since Status Stars and Status Stars Points will no longer exist, these will no longer be visible on your Status card or the online channels. You will still have access to exclusive Status events, and long-term membership will be rewarded with Frequent Traveller Lifetime and Senator Lifetime Status.

  • No, cards featuring Status Stars will remain valid.

  • No, bag tags will not automatically be exchanged. You can continue to use bag tags featuring Status Stars.

  • Miles & More Selections will no longer be offered in the new Status Programme. Miles & More Selections is being replaced by Extra Benefits. You’ll automatically get Extra Benefits when you achieve a specific number of Qualifying Points or HON Circle Points in a calendar year.

Of course, any select benefits you qualify for by 31.12.2023 can still be chosen in early 2024. They will remain valid until the respective expiry date. Please note that the benefit selection options shown under your Status on miles-and-more.com will not be available again until mid January 2024 while we make technical changes.

  • The Senator Premium Award will be discontinued.

  • Status customers who have already earned more than 10,000 Qualifying Points towards Lifetime Status will have access to exclusive Status Events.
